Jul 01, 2009
In India Universites are established by legislation enacted by the Central or State government. There are 369 universities and 18,064 colleges / institutions, which are accredited.
There are also many private small institutions and universities, which generally have superior quality of education due to a higher standard laid down by the private organizations that fund it. These universities cater to the international market and therfore concentrate on popular fields like engineering and business. They have a better infrastructure, which is favourable for international students. Public universites are government funded and offer a wider range of programmes.
Other types of universities in India are:
• Open University
• Community College
• Non-University research institutes
• Recognized non-degree institutions
• Unrecognized institutions
