India, officially the Republic of India, is a country in South Asia. It is the seventh-largest country by geographical area, the second-most populous country, and the most populous democracy in the world.

India buildingsIt is bounded by the Indian ocean on the south, the Arabian sea on the west and the Bay of Bengal in the east. India is a republic consisting of 28 states and 7 union territories with a parliamenatry system of democracy. It has the world's twelfth largest economy and fourth largest in purchasing power.

The Constitution of India, the longest and the most exhaustive constitution of any independent nation in the world, came into force on 26th January, 1950. The preamble of the constitution defines India as a sovereign, socialist, secular, democratic republic.

India is the seventh largest country in the world. The countries which are next to India are Pakistan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, China, Bhutan and Nepal. There are more than 1 billion people living in India, and is the second largest country by the number of people living in it, China being the country with the most people living in it.
