Dutch Inventor of Bluetooth in India

Jaap Haartsen has been active in the area of Wireless Communications for the past 24 years. He studied at Delft University of Technology obtaining his Master and PhD degrees in Electrical Engineering (both with honors) in 1986 and 1990, respectively.
Important Facts
Jaap started his industrial career in the US early 1991 when he joined the Ericsson-GE JV in Raleigh-Durham, working in the research department on advanced mobile systems. Mid-1993, he moved to Lund, Sweden and started working on indoor communication systems. In 1994, he laid the foundations for the system that later became known as Bluetooth Wireless Technology. In 1997, he returned to Holland.
Jaap Haartsen played an active role in the creation of the Bluetooth Special Interest group which was founded in February 1998, and served as chairman for the SIG air protocol specifications group from 1998 till 2000 driving the standardization of the Bluetooth radio interface. During that time, he played an important role in obtaining worldwide regulatory approval for the Bluetooth technology. From 2001 until fall 2004, he served as Chief Scientist of Ericsson Technology Licensing AB, a company fully dedicated to Bluetooth IP. In 2007, he moved to the SonyEricsson JV, working as Expert on wireless systems. In March 2010, he left the Ericsson group and became CTO of Tonalite B.V., a privately-owned company addressing wireless wearable products. From 2000 until 2008, in parallel to his industrial work, Jaap served as a part-time professor at the University of Twente, teaching and leading research in the area of wireless communications.
Jaap published in major journals and magazines and is named inventor of over 100 patents in the area of mobile and local radio communications. Over the past years, he was awarded several prices related to his title "Inventor of Bluetooth."
